The last couple consumer focused web applications I&#8217;ve written using Struts used a servlet filter to effective rewrite the URL from something like \/articles\/pets to \/do\/articles\/pets or \/articles\/pets.do.  This same pet peeve kept from me taking any more than a cursory glance at <a href=\"http:\/\/jakarta.apache.org\/tapestry\/\">Tapestry<\/a>, which (at least in the examples I&#8217;ve seen) produce some pretty ugly URL strings.  Until today that is&#8230; Matt Raible <a href=\"http:\/\/raibledesigns.com\/page\/rd?anchor=pretty_urls_in_tapestry\">pointed out<\/a> that some guys just converted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.identitytheft911.com\/\">a 300 page JSP site<\/a> to Tapestry and the resulting URL&#8217;s are pretty nice looking. You can <a href=\"http:\/\/article.gmane.org\/gmane.comp.java.tapestry.user\/11099\">read about how they did it<\/a> on the <a href=\"http:\/\/jakarta.apache.org\/site\/mail2.html#tapestry\">Tapestry user list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also of note, in Matt&#8217;s comments, Dave Keller pointed out an URL rewriting tool on java.net called <a href=\"https:\/\/urlrewrite.dev.java.net\/\">urlrewrite<\/a> that looks like it might come in handy sometime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>User friendly URL&#8217;s are a personal pet peeve.
